Neenan Travel and their Tour Operating Division Breakaway.ie are delighted to announced our sponsorship of Cycling Ireland’s Girls Talent Team 2020, the newly formed high performance squad which is ultimately aimed at preparing Irish female youth cyclists for the 2020 Olympic Games.
We will support the squad which is has been set up to nurture and develop young riders to compete at the highest levels for example, Junior World Cup and Championship events and with the aim of progressing to the High Performance Development and Elite Squads and ultimately the Olympic Games 2020.
Neenan Travel also have a long standing relationship with the Logistics section of Cycling Ireland, handling their travel arrangements to many events including recent Track World Cups in Beijing, Astana and Cali, as well as the World Track Championships in Melbourne and the arrangements for past and upcoming World Road Race Championships.
We also organise trips for fans/supporters to cycling events like the World Track and World Road Race Championships as well as touring holidays and training breaks abroad.
The team is headed up by Cycling Irelands Head of Development Coach Paddy Doran and World Track Masters Champion Orla Hendron and assisted by a number of coaches who have a long standing relationship with Women’s cycling in Ireland.
Speaking at the announcement, Alan Neenan, owner of Neenan Travel & Breakaway.ie said “I am delighted to provide support to the Girls Talent Team 2020. In particular I’m very happy to see that the coaches have selected young riders from road racing, track racing and mountain biking rather than just having a narrow focus on a single discipline. Each of the young riders chosen on the squad have shown promise at their respective disciplines and the coaches are now looking not only to develop that talent but also to introduce the riders to the other disciplines thus broadening their experience and the subsequent talent base. I believe that this kind of forward thinking makes it less likely that talented young riders will be overlooked and ensures the squad has the best chance of succeeding in their long term goals.
Also speaking at the team launch, Cycling Ireland's Chief Executive Mr. Geoff Liffey said "The Talent Team 2020 is an important initiative for Cycling Ireland as it aims to provide some specific support structures around a key group of Cyclists for the future. We are delighted to have the backing from Neenan Travel and Breakaway.ie to assist with this long term project. Their backing along with the support from some experience cyclists and coaches will provide the girls with the ideal opportunity to aid their development and progression over the coming years."
The Neenan Travel & Breakaway.ie Talent Team 2020 is a long-term project. The chosen riders are aged between 13 to 16 years old and the aim is to provide them with a structure within which they can excel and develop throughout their important formative years.
